Balmoral Ranger Service
the service has been in existents for over 30 years.
It has two full time rangers at the present time and
some part time staff.

The head ranger is Glyn Jones and Fiona Smith is the second
ranger.
The ranger service is part funded by Scottish natural heritage.
It is a government body for conservation and enhancement of
Scotland’s natural heritage and landscapes. |

There is substantial wildlife
on the estate covering Mammals and birds.
The birds on Balmoral estate cove four distanced areas on the estate the
rivers and lochs, woodland, moorland and the mixed habitat.
The type of birds vary over the estate Osprey, Diper, Common Sandpiper,
Oystercatcher, Grey Heron, Goosander and Black Throated Diver are all
related to the water environment. In woodland you have Siskin,
Chaffinch, Coal Tit, Spotted Flycatcher, Tree Creeper, Willow Warbler,
Common Crossbill, Wood Pigeon and Black Grouse. On the moorland Ring
Ouzel, Meadow Pipit, Stone Chat, Lapwing, Wheatear, Skylark, Curlew,
Raven, Hooded Crow and Red Grouse. Within the mixed habitat you can get
Pied Wagtail, Mistle Thrush, Swallow, Wren, Lapwing, Cuckoo, Chaffinch,
Kestrel, Peregrine Falcon, Sparrow hawk, Buzzard and the Golden Eagle.
The ranger service print a leaflet of birds on the estate,
you can get a copy, at the glen Muick visitor centre. To help your
identification of the different birds and the times they are
here, as not all the birds stay all the year, on the estate.

Loch Muick and Lochnagar with some interesting
topic’s like the history, Geology, Plants,
Mammals, Birds, Reptiles, insects and other
subjects like estate management, the ranger
service, Safety and a contacts list among other
things this again can be got from the visitor
centre in glen Muick. |
